Economic Development

£436,000 will help create jobs by providing additional work space, encouraging new start-ups, expanding existing ones and attracting new ones to the town.

Tourism

An additional £547,000 is available plus a grant scheme (see Grant Schemes). The results of a visitor survey have led to a comprehensive marketing plan and a number of initiatives.

The development of walking routes.
The development of cycle routes and their infrastructure which includes route way markers.
The development of enhanced leaflet distribution through the provision of a tourist information office and leaflet dispenser units at key sites.
Local distinctiveness projects to enable local people to be proud of the town and area they live in. These include Music in the Market, the Living Music Festival and the Gardeners' Fair.
A branding image for the area has been developed and used on a number of leaflets and brochures.

WLDC's CCTV Control Room

CCTV

Two years work has gone into investigating alternative systems and Market Rasen will get the best one, continuous live monitoring.

Four remote controlled fixed cameras (and possibly more) surveying King Street, Queen Street and the side streets will deter and detect crime but perhaps more importantly, businesses will have the confidence to improve and expand and others will be attracted to the town for the first time. £150,000 is available.

The funding package however is for capital expenditure only. We are indebted to WLDC for offering to monitor the signals at the existing Gainsborough Control Room at no extra cost and to Market Rasen Town Council and some local businesses for agreeing to pay for the BT telephone links. Lincolnshire Police have also committed significant match funding.

Transport

£964,000 is allocated to improve public transport by integrating the surrounding villages with the town and the County rail and bus network.

The railway station area will be redeveloped to form a "Transport Hub" with links to the surrounding villages and will take advantage of the nearby airport and motorway links. It will cost more than the £529,000 allowed and will be developed directly by emda. A new supermarket may be included, discussions are continuing with developers.

The remainder will be spent on a number of projects as part of the "Rural Transport Initiative" including
Recruitment of a Transport Co-ordinator
Taxibuses for up to 8 passengers
Larger minibuses
A sharing scheme for existing community coaches
A "Wheels to Work" scheme to provide mopeds on hire to young people who have been referred to it.

The infrastructure will be upgraded both in Market Rasen and the surrounding villages providing bus shelters, timetables, lowered kerbs etc.
